Kapi Restaurant is mentioned by everyone in Bangkok when they heard I’m traveling to Surat Thani so I’m giving it a try for the local southern cuisine.
It’s thumbs up for every signature dish at this restaurant.
Living up to its name, the restaurant features “kapi” or shrimp paste in many of its dishes and that creates a distinctive flavor that can’t be rivaled.
Immerse yourself in the flavors of shrimp paste and other ingredients and enjoy the cozy atmosphere that can accommodate 60-80 people.
There are both indoor and outdoor seating to choose from so anyone wanting to try southern food must not miss Kapi Restaurant and its recommended dishes.
Grilled Fish Soup with Shrimp and Bitter Bean
Stir-fried Pork with Shrimp Paste and Lemongrass

Once your appetite is sated, it’s time for some quality relaxation. What would be better than a hot spring dip to wind down a perfect day? Who would know that Surat Thani also has a hot spring which is just 27 kilometers from the city center.
This hot spring is called Tha Sathon Hot Spring and is located in Tambon Tha Sathon in Phunphin District. This is a natural hot spring with a very high temperature but the temperature of the water does drop as it travels to the various ponds, enough that you can take a dip comfortably.
The scenery around the hot spring adds to the relaxation with lush green forests, making it suitable for a family outing during the holidays.
Let’s move on to Donsak District in Surat Thani to a location that has a most beautiful landscape and a brook flowing through that invites everyone to take a dip.
Dip your toes in the water so the little fish can clean off your dead skin, akin to a fish spa. This is known as “Suan Ta San Pla Tod,” belonging to Rangsan Taetieng, located in Tambon Donsak, Donsak District in Surat Thani Province.
The garden spans an area of over 30 rai and is divided into an orchard and a rubber plantation, complete with a brook flowing through.
The place attracts both locals and tourists because the entrance fee is a mere 20 Baht per person.
Enjoy a swim or dip your toes in the water all day. There is a restaurant serving food and beverages for visitors
And if you’re visiting during the fruit season, you’ll be treated to inexpensive fruits to take home. “Suan Ta San Pla Tod” is opened every day from 9 AM to 5 PM. Call 089-589-3245 or 087-626-2540 for more information.
As night falls, your stomach must be rumbling. Where should we go to get yummy local delicacies?
Locals, both teenagers and office workers, flock to the “Talad San Chao” or the San Chao Night Market to dine on local delicacies every night.
There are a lot of food on offer and the taste is guaranteed to be spectacular, as can be proven from the long queues at many stalls.
The San Chao Night Market is also known for its delicious desserts, with rare ancient Thai sweets featured at the “Bo Larn” ancient Thai dessert shop. Some of the desserts include “Piak Poon,” “Saku,” “Maprao,” or even the rare “Luk Jak Loy Kaew.”
Be sure not to miss the “Kanom Jeeb Paeng Sod…Satan Lokan” restaurant selling dumplings and lots of delicious dishes.
